SEND Support

Sensory Rooms – Our sensory rooms offer a calming and soothing space to explore and interact through light, touch, smell, and sound. Sensory rooms are open to all but can be particularly beneficial for those with special educational needs and/or disabilities.

Sensory Bags – Each of our hubs have a readily available sensory bag with a variety of objects for individuals to use when they start to become stressed, agitated, or anxious due to sensory input or overload. The items inside are selected to offer different sensory input based on individual needs.

Reasonable Adjustments – Our hubs and sessions provided are inclusive to all however we know that some adjustments may help a child feel more secure. We can offer a variety of adjustments from entering the session early/leaving late to booking the sensory room for a respite area if needed. Making reasonable adjustments is a great way for a child, their parents/carer and family hub staff to work together to find solutions that can meet the child’s needs.

Links in the Community – We aim to ensure that parents voices are heard and influence the support we provide as Family Hubs. We also work closely with other clubs/groups in communities to provide groups for children who may have a special educational need. This works relies on our community champions who lie in the heart of their communities where they live. If you know of someone who is interested in becoming a community champion or wants to help influence our work contact Olivia/Kacie on 01302 737995 for more information.

Relaxed Sessions – Across the City we offer relaxed sessions during half term and after school for families to connect in a safe and non-judgemental environment. These sessions are designed to be relaxed and quieter and therefore more accessible for families whose child/ren may benefit from support with their social and emotional wellbeing and development.

Family Support - Case Holding/Lead Practitioner

Parent Engagement Workers

A Parent Engagement Worker (PEW) will initially support families identified at Level 2 on the continuum of need. To do this they will complete an early help assessment, identify the needs of a family and put together a family plan. The family must have a child, under 5 years old, living in the household. The PEW will complete Level 3 assessments if they are the best person to do so and there are no emerging complex needs. The PEW will signpost and support families to access a range of services, such as online parenting, housing, domestic abuse, debt and mental health etc. The PEW will complete the Lead Practitioner (LP) role by coordinating services. Once all services are in place the PEW will withdraw as LP and the family will be transferred to another appropriate LP or close to Early Help. Home visits will be undertaken at least every 2-3 weeks. The PEW will engage and support families in Family Hub services and increase Family Hub membership.

If you are working with a family that needs support from a Parent engagement worker please contact Jackie Ward (North/South) or Natasha Watts (Central and East) for a discussion.

Family Hub Pathway Worker

A Family Hub Pathway Worker (FHPW) will support families identified at Level 3 on the continuum of need with ‘emerging’ complex issues following the graduated response. The family must have a child, under 5 years old, living in the household. The FHPW will take the role of Lead Practitioner in all cases. The FHPW will complete the Lead Practitioner (LP) role by coordinating services, once all services are in place. The FHPW will withdraw as LP and the family will be transferred to the most appropriate LP or close to Early Help. The FHPW will engage and support families in Family Hub services and increase Family Hub membership.

If you are working with a family that needs support from a Family Hub pathway worker, please contact Jackie Ward (North/South) or Natasha Watts (Central and East) for a discussion.
